The traveler represents
the highest role the Aikido practitioner can achieve. Travelers are always
black belts and usually Senseis. The pit fall of the traveler is that
it is easy to become complacent. The traveler has "seen it all."
Travelers have to work through a tendency
to be arrogant and get stuck in a know it all attitude. Travelers need
to empty their cup by trying to develop a "white belt" or "beginner's
mind." Travelers benefit from cycling through all the other roles
to develop an ever deepening understanding of the art. Travelers can then
move forward and add their insights and understanding to an ever evolving
style.
