Most Aikido students begin as tourists. They either take the course for high school or college credit or come for a class to just "try it out." Tourists are often characterized by their lack of commitment to one art, one Sensei, or consistent attendance. It is impossible to determine which tourists will become serious students. Often students go from one style to another and never settle into the commitment it takes to learn an art. Tourists are not to be discounted however, because they are often the ones that pay the bills. If a student has settled down to the point that they want to take their art seriously they move into the next phase of development, the warrior. The tourist level is represented by the white belt. |
